Mont Narcel, Monts d'Or, Lyon
A ride to Mont Narcel, one of the Monts d'Or. For a change I went by St Romain au Mont d'Or and the Thou road with its 8 hairpins. 17 minutes for the climb to the village on 7.

Finally, 50,000 meters for the year
I wasn't very motivated due to the weather but decided a little tour to break the 50K barrier this year wouldn't hurt.
2022-12-01 16:00:03
Classic rollerskiing, practising transitions
Anther trip along the Berges du Rhone, a bit more interest in rollerskiing, probably because #winteriscoming and people are starting to think of winter sports.
2022-11-27 11:51:05
Mont Pilat
Cycling in the fag end of the year becomes pretty much opportunistic but some unexpected good weather gave me the chance to scratch two itches, a long ride (well long for me) and to visit an unknown s

Classic banks of the Rhone
Return to the banks of the Rhone. I've broken a skate pole (roooh !) so stuck with classic but probably a good thing. Work to do on technique - more ankle flex and more leg extension.

Between the showers
Felt tired today, still recovering from 'flu so decided to take it easy with a little loop around Mont d'Or. Went to look at the airbase, it is still active with armed soldiers patrolling.

Berges du Rhône from the Tête d'Or to the Confluence, Lyon, France
Obvious "urban" rollerski route along the river from the Parc de la Tête d'Or in the center of Lyon to the Confluence. It is approx 10km round trip.
2022-11-13 15:53:23
Monts du Lyonnais, Lyon, France
The Monts du Lyonnais are a small mountain range to the SE of Lyon. The high point is the crêt Malherbe at 946 meters but my objective was the signal de Saint-André at 934 meters.
2022-11-12 15:49:11
Lyon to Parc Miribel Jonage
Long rollerski (skate style) from Lyon to the Grand Parc Miribel Jonage. The Promenade Parc de Miribel is a bit rough in places with some tree roots and also quite narrow but generally flat.
2022-11-10 16:19:31
Col de la Croix de Peccata, Mont Mezenc, Massif Central, France
DescriptionFrom Yssingeaux (there is a free autoroute from Lyon - the N88) you climb 400 meters over 16km but there are some sections of 8%.
2022-10-27 13:06:09
Classic hill repeats and no pole exercises
Took advantage of the shallow Charlaix climb to do some classic exercises - including some telemark turns on the descent then did some no pole exercises on the flat with the aim of improving weight tr
2022-10-26 11:44:09
Classic rollerskiing on the twopath
Basically working on diagonal stride rhythm and weight transfer and trying to lengthen glide.
2022-10-25 11:32:39
Lyon hill repeats
Hill repeats largely at threshold, took in the climb to la Croix Rousse although need to find a better way down.
2022-10-21 11:36:50
Col des Aravis, Croix Fry and Marais, Savoie, France
DescriptionA long loop with a lot of vertical covering 4 cols. Starting at Ugine take the cycle path toward Annecy. After about 9km of false flat you cross a bridge over "la Chaise".
2022-10-19 13:31:11
Park Or
Made it onto the strava leader boards thanks to skate skis. Can probably go a bit higher but there are some fast guys in Lyon. More fun this week as I took a more varied route around.
2022-10-15 08:24:06
Tour of the Miribel Jonage Park, Lyon, France
I thought it would be possible to cycle around the park, there is a cycle route marked (#5) but only for mountain bikes it would seem. I started out along the Canal de Jonage.
2022-10-13 12:25:43
Tete d'Or Skating
I decided to tackle the Tete d'Or park on skate rollerskis. You feel the roughness of the surface a lot more on skate wheels. About a third of the circuit is a bit rough.
2022-10-09 08:13:42
Real col du Verdun
A real col du Verdun this weekend with a climb on the closed section. Absolutely no-one around and few cars. Climb is just steep enough on 42x24 but not too steep.
2022-10-08 16:40:51
Fourviere via St Just
I decided to attack the Fourviere hill from a different angle. Ride down the Rhone to the Confluence and then climb via la Mulatiere (the mule?) along a balcony road called the Chemin de la Fontaines.
2022-10-07 11:36:03
Very slow wheels
Rollerski with slow wheels, quite good for the arms and technique but managed to fall despite the wheels being safer, doh! Took over an hour to do the return trip - 5m/km.
2022-10-05 12:04:47
Mont Verdun, Limonest
Pushed out to Limonest today and the closed Mont Verdun climb which I descended. A lot of cyclists on it enjoying the Sunday afternoon sun.
2022-10-02 14:26:16
Head of Gold Park
Second trip to the Tete d'Or park. Not many people on a Thursday afternoon, just a few nasty dags who don't like rollerskiers but are ok with bikes and runners.
2022-09-29 15:06:25
Mont Thou
Saturday ride up to Mont Thou where the large radar ball is located. Slopes a bit more acceptable/even on this side of the hill.
2022-09-24 15:29:31
Fourvière, Lyon, France
Fourvière is the hill that dominates the center of Lyon to the west on the right bank of the Saône river in the 5th arrondissement of the city.
2022-09-18 16:38:21
Parc de la Tête d'Or, Lyon, France
I wanted to check out Lyon's Golden Head park to see what the surface is like for rollerskiing.
2022-09-17 07:24:02
Mont Cindre, Lyon, France
A trip into the Monts d'Or which I know quite well now up as far as Mont Cindre. Not easy on my 42x24 gear as some of the ramps are pretty steep. The countryside at the gates of the city.
2022-09-15 09:23:11
Evening Training
Usual 4x8 min intervals. Timed it better to finish the intervals on the climb and a part of the descent.
2022-09-05 17:27:11
Preprandial Isere loop
Preprandial loop to get a bit of air on what should be (and were) some dry trails. Quite a few people around. A bit muggy, better close to the river.
2022-09-03 11:02:32
Murianette intervals
Second interval session of the week, this time over the Murianette. 4x8s work quite well although at Revel you have to continue up the hill for 3 minutes.
2022-08-26 11:48:13
St Jean and Belledonne Intervals
First intervals for a long time. I decided to try 4x8. First set was hard but after ok but need a bit of a slope to get the HR up.
2022-08-22 17:45:21
Loop via the dykes
Took it relatively easy. HRM was reading below 140 for most of the way but it was my optical monitor so not sure about the accuracy. A bit hard after the hours. 4m17 per km.
2022-08-21 14:32:31
Curienne - Mont St Michel
Return from Chambery to get some base miles in. Apart from the climb at Threshold mostly <140bpm on the valley roads. I'd not done the Curienne loop before, it is a favourite for Chambery riders.
2022-08-20 15:01:27
Isere towpath south
A little aperitif ride on the flat along the tow paths of the river. We explored some strange track shown on google earth, a kind of loop.
2022-08-18 11:12:41
Another bite of the Madeleine
I parked up at la Grande Croix d'Aiguebelle. A hamlet at the entrance to the Maurienne valley. In the drought the river was dry but the fountain still worked.
2022-08-13 13:04:41
Early bird
Ride to work but staying on the Chartreuse side of the valley to allow a bail out if time was a problem 1h11 for the ride so leaving at 7.30 was in work for 8.40.
2022-08-10 06:49:28
Evening Ride
Loop home via the Combe de Lancey and co. Adds a few km to the ride home and 600 extra meters of climbing. HR 166bpm for the climb ave, probably due to the heat.
2022-08-09 17:33:47
Paradise loop in the heat
Not as quick as May due to the heat, VAM of 900, not bad. The climb has quite a bit of shade, so not bad on a hot day.
2022-08-03 11:41:43
Alpe Camasca from Lake Orta
Nice climb this morning but got lost in Quarno Sopra before finding the road to Camasca - very hard in places, it must be around 18-20% max, chain was making a nasty noise.
2022-07-30 07:43:32
Colma di Valpiana, Lake Orta, Italy
This route is really best done in the opposite direction to how I tackled it but I didn't have any information about the road surface and the Climbbybike website has a completely erroneous profile for

Coiromonte
A trip to Orta isn't complete without a Coiromonte. Well that is not really true but it is quite an interesting climb and only takes just over an hour.
2022-07-27 16:13:56
Alpe Busca
Rode to the end of the road at Alpe Busca this year. There is no real view from the top - a small shrine with a fountain of very pleasant water, just mountains.
2022-07-26 07:20:59
Easyish rollerski
Supposed to be an easy session but ended up a lot in zone 3/4 anyway.
2022-07-23 11:06:51
Col de la Poya
Commute into work via the Col de la Poya. Quieter than 2 weeks ago as people are starting to go on summer holiday. Legs felt heavy on the first part of the climb but it is very steep.
2022-07-19 07:25:22
Bournemouth to Sandbanks
The promenade to Sandbanks from Bournemouth is much smoother than towards Hengistbury and would be ok on normal rollerskates with just 3 rough sections - one between Alum Chine and Branksome and anoth
2022-07-15 07:43:10
X Skate - On Hengistbury Head
Cross skate down the promenade from Bournemouth to Hengistbury head. I didn't ski all the way to the head on the track due to lack of time and it was getting hot by 8am, next time.
2022-07-14 07:50:08
Col de Marcieu Downhill, Chartreuse, France
A long while since I last came this way but I remembered a relatively easy downhill with a fairly easy climb.
2022-07-07 15:29:10
Gravel Biking
I'd arranged to ride into work via St Agnes with my neighbour. But he overslept so I tackled the same route as 2 weeks ago, a small 600 meter climb.
2022-07-06 06:55:23
col de la Poya
Ride into work via le col de la Poya. Not too bad this morning but I was rolling along. The climb is 7.5km for 550m of V+.

Stability and balance exercises on classic skis
Spent an hour doing some classic ski diagonal stride balance and stability exercises. The principal aim is to be balanced on the front of the kick ski (front wheel) at the end of the push phase.
2022-07-02 10:02:32
Small Lunch Tour
I didn't have too long so cut things a bit short compared to normal. Not too hot, which is a change. Stopped to chat to a guy who was interested in cross skates.
2022-06-22 11:38:18
Ste Agnes, Belledonne, France
Climb via Ste Agnes to get a bit of altitude on the road to Grenoble. The climb has some little ramps on it but is mercifully short.
2022-06-21 06:49:13
Classic Superloop
Got my classic rollerskis out for a change and went on a long but thankfully shady and early ski.
2022-06-18 08:41:09
xSkating in the woods
I wanted to skate home from work. Around 15km along the tow path which seemed to be the only valid route and then only possible with cross skates as 6km is on gravel tracks.
2022-06-14 17:25:56
Mr Cat
I decided to ride home from the lac du Bourget this afternoon, but via the Relais du Mont du Chat and the col de l'Epine.
2022-06-11 17:07:41
Cross Skate Bois Francais
A cross skate tour around the Bois Francais trails with the CS38 group. Quite a few small ups and downs to tackle; some easy, some more challenging without brakes and small wheels.
2022-06-06 09:59:22
Tour of the Crolles - Brignoud Dykes
Took the towpath south from Brignoud bridge (currently shut to vehicles) as far as the Batie bridge. The path is good on cross skates, much better than the continuation to the north.
2022-06-04 18:07:33
Crolles north towpath on cross skate
I tried the north towpath from Brignoud road bridge to see if it was ok on cross skating.
2022-06-02 19:10:59
First Murianette of 2022
First Murianette of 2022. Since I moved offices I've gone this way less as it is a bit longer so I tend to vary the routes.
2022-05-30 11:38:04
Crolles farm tracks and trails on X-skating
A tour of some of the farm trails just in and North of Crolles to see what is skiable. Not much to be honest, they are a bit potholed apart from the Ch. des Papillons.
2022-05-29 10:17:36
Col de Pré to the Cormet de Roselend
Second big col of the spring campaign. This time we drove to Beaufortain as Mike finds the Albertville road uninteresting and very busy. He's not wrong. We too the back road to Arêches.
2022-05-27 10:19:35
Cross Ski
I decided to do the whole tour today. After the lac du Taillet the trail improves back to compact gravel. It is about 6.
