Le Collet
Just to show I wasn't tired after the morning's ski de fond a little afternoon hooning around the pistes of Allevard. Not busy.
2022-01-15 15:44:15
Col de Porte SNC
Back home from BASI 2, quite tired but trying to keep the motivation up.

Basi Nordic Day 5 - Chamonix
Morning was classic evaluations - still not good enough. Afternoon spent square bashing on Descents and Skating technique - particularly posture and arm position.
2022-01-14 14:36:55
Chamonix night ski CL
Usually just the green is open for the night ski but this time they hadn't blocked the trails at the bridge so I took advantage to ski right up to the blue piste.
2022-01-13 19:15:38
BASI Nordic Day 4 Vallorcine
Another day up at Vallorcine. We were joined by Fern Cates who was doing her technical evaluation for L3, clearly she was way above the level.
2022-01-13 14:01:49
BASI Nordic Day 3 - Vallorcine
We decamped to Vallorcine for Day 3. The pistes offer lots of short climbs and descents to practise Skate one and diagonal stride. Cafe Moon.Tine sells great soups.

Argentiere Nordic Ski Area
General DescriptionNestled at the foot of the Argentière glacier and the legendary Aiguille Verte, Argentière is the home of some legendary mountain guides. Its baroque style church is remarkable.
2022-01-11 15:19:10
Basic Nordic Day 1
First day of the BASI Nordic level 2/3 course in Chamonix. Morning spent on classic skis - largely working on double polling technique.
2022-01-10 16:44:00
Liason Chamrousse Arselle
Junior was doing part 2 of his ice driving course so I skied from the center down the blue alpine run at Chamrousse and took the link to the plateau d'Arselle.
2022-01-08 11:22:33
Half Marathon - first time without ankle brace
A longer tour at the Col de Porte (nowhere else in the Chartreuse has much open). I wanted to cruise around a bit further with the aim of doing a half marathon distance.
2022-01-06 16:23:22
Col de Porte CL
Double lunch loop of the nordic trails on classic. Very pleasant to be out of the valley cloud. Not many people around. Rails were a bit frozen.
2022-01-03 12:41:28
Charmant Som pt 1772
A bit of spring crust skiing... on New Year's day. Refreeze was pretty good with perhaps 5-10cm of refrozen snow.
2022-01-01 11:40:55
Beijing
Return to les 7 Laux. The roads to Chamrousse and Allevard were partially blocked due to the big storm and melt. We knew it would be rammed and so it was, like a Chinese ski resort.
2021-12-31 12:34:43
Postdiluvian
Pottering around the Col de Porte seeing what the damage is like from the floods. Well things are open and the skiing wasn't too bad but you can't hoon around the place due to frequent blockages.
2021-12-30 16:20:10
Après moi, le déluge
Skied to the Source de Sire Mouton (col). Second fastest time on the descent, would have been quicker on skate boots and skis and a good ankle.
2021-12-28 16:04:41
Nordic technique sous la flotte
As the weather was poor took the opportunity to go out and work a bit on technique: badass skate drills, Skate one transitions etc.
2021-12-27 11:12:05
Super Collet
Allevard was fully open but not many people around, maybe the effect of Covid although suggestions that people were arriving today rather than Saturday for the holiday week. Not sure why.
2021-12-26 15:28:42
Return to St Hilaire
Return to St Hilaire for the first time alpine skiing for 3 season, I think. There was no-one here, maybe 10 people skiing in total. A bit sad for the resort but it was Christmas morning.
2021-12-25 11:31:12
Soggy Ski
A rapid return trip on the piste of St Hilaire. Quite a lot of debris in places which slows you down. Also quite windy heading out.
2021-12-24 11:25:17
Montagne de Lans
Resort DescriptionLans en Vercors is a traditional village situated at the northern entrance of the Vercors plateau (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region) just above Grenoble.
2021-12-23 12:12:46
Le Sappey Tour
The idea was to tour around the lower part of the domain as the Emeindras descent was too frozen last week for my liking.
2021-12-22 12:32:15
Classic at the Col de Marcieu
After yesterdays partial grooming I had an idea they would finish the job to St Hilaire and so it was.
2021-12-19 11:47:33
Les 7 Laux is Go
Les 7 Laux was fully today so we took advantage of skiing the three sides of the mountain.
2021-12-18 12:06:05
Skating on sunshine, and it starts to feel good
The cloud level has lowered a bit so le Sappey en Chartreuse was in the sun at midday. Time for a lunch skate up to Emeindras.
2021-12-17 12:40:41
Charmant Som complete classic style
After going to the col de Marcieu in the morning - red not pisted, blue and green in thick freezing fog I looked for sun and decided to re-go-out to the Col de Porte which the webcam showed to be abov
2021-12-16 15:32:07
Le Sappey classic tour
A nice little classic tour except for some tricky descents which I can't take with my bad ankle but the snow and sun are fantastic. Great to get out from our Grenoble fog for a bit of winter sunshine.
2021-12-14 12:19:38
Allevard AM
It was slow going getting to the ski area this am and a big scrum for tickets. The lifts seemed to be opening and closing a bit randomly too.
2021-12-12 12:27:53
Christmas come early
Last outing with the ski club before Christmas. There is a lot of snow and it was quite soft and cut up in places. A big change from last week's rain but hard going skiing.
2021-12-11 10:03:40
300 Meters
I wasn't sure if le Sappey had been pisted. About 5-10cm had fallen overnight. I saw Christophe Imbert at the start but he'd not been up today, pisting had been perfect yesterday though.
2021-12-07 12:31:28
Glad to be back, Alpine skiing at the 7 Laux
First day piste skiing since March 2020 and a return to the 7 Laux where we'd finished. Surprisingly not that busy and no queues despite only 2 lifts being open.
2021-12-05 12:12:05
Waterlogged
SNC club coaching / lessons. Given the weather we did a mix of exercises: Alternate skiing on one ski between the cones, skiing backwards, skiing with eyes shut, skiing with jumps.
2021-12-04 09:47:34
Classic Sappey
I didn't know if le Sappey had opened so took my classic skis with the idea that I could always go up towards Emeindras and make my own tracks.
2021-12-03 12:36:08
L'appel de la fôret
Probably the start of winter. Obviously the road ins't pisted yet so we climbed the traditional way, taking relays to make the classic tracks.
2021-11-28 10:48:27
Around Crolles
I wanted a flat trip around near where I live just to get some air but not go far or hard as I sprained my ankle on Sunday.
2021-11-25 11:34:53
Madeleine via the lac du Loup (gravel)
I took the back route into the Madeleine via the lacets de Montvernier Col du Chaussy and the lac du Loup. There are some sections of 13% above Montvernier on a balcony road.
2021-11-21 12:28:43
Oh! Soleil! 🌞🌞🌞
I'd not ridden this loop over the Col de la Poya since pre-lockdown.
2021-11-19 13:07:37
Quick Classic Ski
A quick rollerski to work mainly on diagonal technique.
2021-11-18 15:50:19
Lunch Skating in Meylan
A lunch skate, I'd wanted to do a couple of climbs up the Chartreux hill but broke the tip of my pole on the hard tarmac, will have to see about repairing it now.
2021-11-16 12:29:05
Classic exercises
2m33 for the Chartreux climb compared to 2m49 last time on classic RS and 1m46 on skate skis. Still that's 50% slower on classic so room for some improvement.
2021-11-14 16:04:14
Cat's home
Quick ride over the Coteau with tot, we didn't go too far as it was getting a bit gloomy. Pleasant temperature.
2021-11-13 16:05:39
Afternoon Manival
This is becoming our go-to ride. Just technical enough to provide a challenge with lines etc but all rideable at the moment with no real risk of a nasty off.
2021-11-11 15:19:14
Innovallee Skating Exercises
A mix of slowish skating and some exercises - Swiss cross, one foot etc. Remarks - in V2 poles are still planted too far apart and hands should come down close to hips. Not following through enough.
2021-11-09 12:32:35
First of the 21 season
A little trip to check the snow conditions.
2021-11-05 11:24:34
Classic training
A bit of technique training for classic. I took advantage of this gentle 3% hill to give a bit of resistance for diagonal stride. Getting reasonably comfortable at the end of the session.
2021-11-01 16:54:05
Foehnski classic
A short Saturday morning ski tour with Valerie, I was on classic skis and Valerie on skating. Very windy and we had to be careful on the way back with the amount of junk on the roads.
2021-10-30 09:47:40
Superloop from Labs
A slight variant on the Superloop, this time going straight from work which adds around 5km. Arms were a bit tired at the end with nearly 20k at lunch. I also took in the Isle d'Amour bridge.
2021-10-29 11:44:08
Les Deux Alpes
General DescriptionThe ski resort of Les Deux Alpes is situated in the Oisans area of the Isère department in the Northern Alps.
2021-10-28 11:07:32
Lazy Sunday Afternoon Ride
A little tour in the warm, maybe too warm, autumn sunshine.
2021-10-24 14:31:00
Classic style by the Isere
A return to classic style after a few weeks of skating. Working on weight transfer for both kick double pole (pas d'un) and diagonal stride (alternatif) techniques. 4m49/km which is not too bad.
2021-10-23 17:07:56
Ski club training
More for fun, we hired the Col de Porte rollerski track for a Saturday morning session of skating and exercises.
2021-10-23 10:04:58
Autumn days on the Venon climb
The climb was harder at the end than I remembered. In general it felt quite easy, not like I was really killing it. It took 32m44s for the complete climb with a VAM of over 900.
2021-10-22 11:35:33
Montbonnot - Meylan Inovallée
Why not ski from work along the large bike paths of the Innovalley. Well no good reason plus I commute on them and there is hardly anyone who uses the paths which are both wide and well maintained.
2021-10-19 11:40:54
Sunday lunch Ride
A little pre Sunday lunch ride with tot over the Bergers climb and down the steps. After my recent crash didn't clear 1 of the steps as I didn't want another bad knee.
2021-10-17 11:46:01
Run to the Orionde
I don't remember running the Orionde but as it is not far from home and I had other things to do I decided to give it a try. It is a bit steep in most places so it was largely a fast walk.
2021-10-07 10:50:00
Lunch Ride
Due to the lockdown I think this is the first Murianette on road bike this year.
2021-10-01 11:50:13
la Pérérée Express
I'd not climbed this way at all last year due to lockdown and covid so I wanted to see if I'd improved a bit. Well yes.
2021-09-28 11:38:34
The real Tour de la Chartreuse
North to South, or South to North? That is the question and it is not entirely simple to resolve.
2021-09-23 16:05:53
Journée de la mobilté douce
The annual "leave your car at home" event. To amuse the crowds (which it did) I went by rollerski/skating to work.
2021-09-21 10:46:41
First snows of autumn
It had rained all day but the weather said sun from 4pm, it started drying out at 3pm so I gave it an hour or so for the roads to be good.
2021-09-19 16:27:52
Classic by the river
A little tour on classic rollerskis to move the legs a bit. Not too quick, balance a bit better after some recent practice but more work to do.
2021-09-16 17:00:40
Col de Tamié / Col de l'Arpettaz
DescriptionIt is a fairly logical loop.
