Vertical Climbed: 357 meters (1,171 feet)
Vertical Descended: 358 meters
General Description
Nestled at the foot of the Argentière glacier and the legendary Aiguille Verte, Argentière is the home of some legendary mountain guides. Its baroque style church is remarkable. It was built in the 18th century so that the villagers could meditate during the harshest winters when they couldn't travel down to Chamonix. When it was built the glacier descended down behind the church.
Old Argentière has a charm of a typical of mountain village, to immerse yourself a little more in the mountain culture go to the hamlet of Le Tour, frozen in time with its typical old farms.
There are 15km of marked cross country trails, both for classic and skating styles including the 8.5km Moraine red piste which twists and turns to the north through wooded valleys and under the Grand Montets cable car. There is a snack bar at the start of the trails.
