Today was a club day guiding for the Grimpeurs des Alpes. We'd originally planned a route in the Chartreuse but that was back in December for the program.

From Prabert (barrier 1088m December to March) follow the road east to 1300 meters (car park), From here take a trail to the right to the Pont de la Betta.

Chris had taken a half day from work so the idea was not to go too far but do something a little technical. To our surprise, despite recent snowfall to 800m, there was little snow below 1200m.

From the parking at Prabert (pont de la Betta 1336m after March) follow the GR549 trail to the Habert d'Aiguebelle at 1800m. Continue east to the Pas de la Coche (2030 m).

The 40cm of fresh snow from yesterday has seen a bit of sun and wind. It was both hard climbing and hard descending.

There is a barrier at 1088 meters after Prabert which normally blocks the road in winter.

I've not had much time for storm chasing this year and missed all the previous powder days.

It snowed on Saturday but also rained to high altitude. I was surprised to see how much the snowline had climbed since last week when it was skiable from 1050 meters.

A real Dent de Crolles. Started from 1030m at the reservoirs just above the hamlet of les Meunires/St Pancrasse and a real bit of skiing in great conditions. AOC Chartreuse approuve.

A quick Charvet under grey skies and very light rain. The snow had changed a lot and was heavy and stickly. Luc was suffering from snow sticking to his old skins.
