With the return to winter conditions, up to half a meter of fresh snow accompanied by strong winds, there have been a series of avalanches in the French Alps.

8 skiers, part of two distinct groups, have been involved in an avalanche this afternoon around 15h40.

On Saturday at la Clusaz in the Haute-Savoie a group of five ski tourers triggered a slide in the west facing Combe de Tardevant at around 2100 meters altitude. The incident occured at around 11h00.

An avalanche triggered by a serac collapse has killed two skiers in the Grands Mulets sector of Mont Blanc. An additional skier was injured by the slide. The avalanche occured around 4h30.

Three trainee guides have been killed by an avalanche on the Pointe de la Golette (3256 m) close to the ski resort of Tignes.
