Introduced for 2005/2006 season is the Naxo Nx21 freeski binding. Now there we were thinking that the [Nx01 was already oriented at the more agressive off-piste rider then Naxo produce this beefed up version of the binding. A number of the plastic parts of the Naxo nx01 have been replaced with aluminium, the link arms which proved fragile on early Nx01s have been replaced with solid forged 7075 T6 aluminium and the centre rail has been reinforced. This gives a stronger, more torsionally rigid and precise binding. There is also a lever that blocks the binding in its alpine position which means no more unplanned switches to "telemark" mode. The binding is available in three lengths to suit different boot sizes: 240 - 300 mm, 280 - 340 mm, 320 - 370 mm. There is a 43mm boot height with 3mm forward ramp which gives better edge control especially on wide all-mountain skis.
The walking mode uses Naxo's pivoted toe piece technology (Virtual Rotation System) which makes for a more natural walking movement.
The manufacturer gives the weight as 2250 gramms but that is hardly the point. The Nx21 is aimed at aggresive off-piste skiers who will probably be accessing the backcountry after a short climb from the top of the lift. Think north face of the BellecĂ´te rather than the Pierra Menta. The stronger parts should address the early reliability issues that affected the Nx01. The NX21 comes supplied with 80 mm ski brakes as standard. extra-wide 105 mm ski brakes can also be supplied at a small additional cost. Wide ski crampons are also available.
Note this binding is also sold as the Dynastar Legend Early Tram to match the Legend ski range.
