Naxo is a new ski binding manufacturer based in the Bernese Oberland in the shadow of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. Some of the team originally came from Fritschi but had new ideas on how to build a performant and modern ski touring binding using the latest materials. The result was the nx01. Despite some teething problems in the first year this binding was very well received, especially in North America with its emphasis on lift served off-piste, heliskiing and cat/snowcat skiing. Enthusiasm was more muted in weight conscious Europe with its emphasis on ski touring. However the binding is slowly gaining ground in the Freerando and Freeride
In the spring of 2006 Rottefella, the world leader in Nordic bindings, purchased 62,5% of the shares in NAXO and retained the option of buying a further part of the remaining shares over the coming years. NAXO predicts a worldwide share in 06/07 of approximately 20% of the ski touring binding market.
