Hi everybody!

I’m going to Les 2 Alpes at the end of february and I would like to ask if anyone could give me some information on the off-piste runs around.

I would be interested for ex. in the following descents:

Descent from Les 2 Alpes towards Venosc,
Descent from Dome de la Lauze towards St Christophe (via Vallon de la Selle)
Descent form Pied Moutet (nord face) towards La Rivoire / La Balme
Descent towards Cuculet

+any other interesting hors piste itinerary in the area (a part from Vallons de la Meije)

The information I found on the forum ( http://pistehors.com/backcountry/wiki/Isere-Drome/Les-Deux-Alpes#OffPiste ) seems to have some technical problems (html codes displayed)and is rather uncomplete…

A HUGE thanx for any info!!

Luke

Yes the page is very messy, I will try to update it a bit over the weekend. Did you try the Vamos guidebook to les Deux Alpes? The off piste has a good reputation and they run their free respect programme once a week which has some introduction to the off piste with a guide.

Did you try the Vamos guidebook to les Deux Alpes?

Thanks for suggesting this - I’ve heard about those guides… but there is no chance I could get it before I leave…

Has really nobody made some runs around Les 2 Alpes and could share some info / topos or even GPS files?

That would be really great!! Thanks again for any ideas!

Luke

I’ve updated the off piste page a bit.

http://pistehors.com/backcountry/wiki/Isere-Drome/Deux-Alpes-Off-Piste

Les Deux Alpes is, in my opinion, like its neighbour across the valley Alpe d’Huez, a very unexploited area in terms of off piste. Lets start with the Pied Moutet which is a 2339 meter summit on the west side of the village. The summit is a popular walking route in the summer as it is a good viewpoint. It is also the birthplace of the ski area, the first drag lift was installed here in the early 1940s. You should also be aware that the off pistes have been the scene of a number of avalanche deaths over the years and should be treated with respect.

The two main routes down are the Travers

http://pistehors.com/backcountry/wiki/Isere-Drome/Les-Travers

and the Moliere

http://pistehors.com/backcountry/wiki/Isere-Drome/L-Eperon-De-La-Moliere

There is a restaurant at la Moliere, it could make an excellent early lunch stop (say midday to avoid being on the slopes too late) but call to book a table if you ask me (knowing what French restaurants are like). I’ve put the phone number in the web page. I will see if I have a photo of the sector.

The off piste down the glaciers to the north and north east of the top drag to the Puy Salie, (Glacier de Mantel and du Mont de Lans I think) offers some great skiing, although you have to be careful that you don’t drop too low before you cut left to the chair, not least because the glaciers steepen precipitously.
