A chance to look at the avalanche that ripped down to the Col de Porte - Hotel ski lift in January on a risk 5 weekend. The biggest avalanche in 42 years according to the locals. It has certainly cleared out the forest and had a rare forced.
After a rapid climb via the teleski I decided to ski down the mysterious Canyon route. Always a favourite. There was hard snow about 20 meters below the summit cross, a few rocks in the Canyon that made skiing a bit tricky then out onto fantastic spring conditions. The avalanche debris was a bit tricky to ski due to the amount of broken trunks and branches. Hopefully this will get cleared out over the summer.
Good overnight refreeze. Little snow depth. Well stabilized spring snow. Excellent spring conditions but lack of snow at the level of the Bachasson hut - still enough to ski.
