Peira Cava is situated in the Mercantour area of the Alpes Maritimes department in the Southern Alps region. The ski station was a very popular destination for the Nice smart set between the wars and the village of Luceram was one of the first in the region to build a drag lift. The area was used by the Chasseurs Alpins troops as a training ground. At its height the station had a short chairlift and a drag lift serving just 60 meters of vertical with the top of the runs as 1425 meters. However the ski resort closed due to lack of snow and changing fashions. The ski slope for the chair lift is still visible above the main road and a post from the drag lift is still visible.
