Ski-Areas > Southern Alps > Alpes Maritimes (06) > Mercantour > La Colmiane
Situated in the Mercantour national park La Colmaine is a pleasant but small family resort. Snow cover can be a bit lacking due to the proximity of the Mediterranean sea and the maximum altitude of 1800 meters. In early April the slopes were closed but we were still able to ski tour in the nearby Mercantour mountains.
The slopes are between 1450 and 1800 meters. There are 20 pistes offering 30km of skiing. These are divided between 4 greens, 6 blues, 8 red and 2 blacks. The Diable (Devil) black is excellent when the snow is good. The lifts are served by 1 chair and 6 drags and there is 15 hectares of snowmaking. There is no marked cross-country skiing but there is excellent ski touring and snow shoeing in the surrounding mountains.
The resort has a variety of slopes and a good snow park and is ideal for a days skiing. An adult lift pass costs 16 (2005-6 season).
Out of the ski season there are marked walking and mountain biking trails, climbing and a via-ferrata.
The ski resort was opened in 1960 with major improvements in 1989 with the construction of a four seater chairlift and the improvement of some of the existing drag lifts.
This is very limited and principally on the old black run from the top of the Crétes' black (shown as an open cut through the trees on the piste map). There is some tree skiing in the Conquet forest.

La Colmiane has very little in the way of shops beyond those directly linked to skiing. Valdeblore, which is 3 separate hamlets, has more activity.
Offers snow shoe touring, ski touring, ice climbing, off-piste skiing and heliskiing as well as beacon practise.
