La Rouya North Couloir

Take the Préron chair lift then Crête drag (5 euros - randonneur pass) which leaves 400 meters of skinning. Travers to the right under the Croix du Chastellet and climb the bowl to about 2600 meters. Turn due north towards the summit of the Rouya and climb to the point 2730 meters on the IGN map.

The north couloir has a number of narrow sections, at the bottom of the couloir take the Ravin de l'Alpet then follow the path to Ailefroide (closed in the winter). Ski or hitch back to Pelvoux.

The first twenty meters needed to be downclimbed to get past a fin of rock in the middle of the couloir. Good snow in the lower section.
