As we mentioned on Twitter earlier ABS have announced another recall for their airbag system. This is the third recall for various faults and the second this year. This one is fairly general. Basically if you've fired your airbag with a steel activation unit filled before the 3rd of December is could be snafued.
The problem, according to ABS, lies with the supplier of steel cartridged. Apparently debris has made it into some cartridges during the filling process. The debris can block the airbag during use stopping it from inflating properly, or at all. ABS are aware of this issue occuring in 3 test activations. The recall applies to all European steel cartridges and ABS Twinbag systems.
Here are the airbags currently affected
Check carefully to see if your airbag is concerned by the recall. However it should be noted that even if you are currently using the carbon cartridge if you have test fired with a steel cartridge you are still concerned by this recall. In October ABS had to recall rucksacks with too sticky velcro and in 2011 ABS had another steel canister fault where a manufacturing error stopped the canisters being actuated. Mammut/Snowpulse have also had to recall cannisters, triggering mechanisms and too sticky velcro.
