It's been a long time since I've skied from the summit of the Dent, 2015 was the last time I think but maybe I lost the appetite for NFZ (no fall zones) as the Americans call them.
Drôle de con on the Dent de Crolles
Parked at the Salt Depot and took the la Gorgette trail just after the bridge following a well made snowshoe track that came from St Pancrasse up to the winter carpark at 1220 meters.
A pulled tooth
After Chapp's report on skitour (Virgule) I had no intention of going to Pas d'Oeille today but the prairie below the Dent de Crolleswas tempting. 15cm of fresh snow on a hard base.
Dent de Crolles: prairie and Pravouta
We've had quite a bit of fresh snow over the last 5 days. The automatic weather station at the Col de Porte (1300 meters) showed two falls of 30 + 25cm.
Dent de Crolles in the fog
I waited until 4pm to see if the cloud that has been clagging the Chartreuse would clear. It seemed to be the case and for a brief moment it lifted revealing the mountain in all its glory.
Dent de Crolles - Pravouta
I'd thought about heading to the Belledonne but cloud was developing at 7.30 and the Chartreuse was clear. There was also a strong N.
Pravouta - Dent de Crolles
I parked at le Meuniere and took the fields under the pylons towards the Col du Coq.
The snow transformed late today but as I had to be somewhere at 11.30 I couldn't wait for it.
Dent de midi
A rapid lunchtime ski tour. The nice weather of the morning had turned to overcast, cold and windy.
First tracks on the Dent de Crolles
It is rare to make tracks on the Dent de Crolles these days but the fresh snow and wind had wiped any old tracks and at 9am no-one had yet set out for this iconic summit.
