A 57 year old ski instructor has been killed by an avalanche while skiing off piste at les Arcs. The piste patrol had already been called to an avalanche at 11h30. An off piste skier was buried under 150cm of snow. Recovered unconscient the victim recovered after first aid.
AT 14h30 a 57 year old local man was skiing close to the pistes at 2300 meters under the Aiguille Grive in the Landry/Peisey-Nancrois sector when he was buried by a slide. A resident of Bourg St Maurice the victim did not survive. The avalanche risk was 3 (Considerable) about 2000 meters with the pricipal factors being fresh, wind blown snow. The bulleting warned of soft slabs which could be up to 70cm deep and easy to trigger with a slight risk of triggering more deeply buried weak layer. There was a lot of avalanche activity on the 19th following four days of around half a meter of fresh snow.
