Vertical Climbed: 860 meters (2,822 feet)
Avalanche Risk: 1
Snowline: 1,220
The snow transformed late today but as I had to be somewhere at 11.30 I couldn't wait for it. Normally it is ok by 11am in March but perhaps the wind and a small amount of high cloud slowed down the transformation. In any case the right bank of the Pas d'Oeille was spring snow but unfornately the crux is on the left bank and was hard, smooth, icy snow. I almost considered fitting crampons and down climbing this part, it wasn't fun on skis. The upper part of the prairie was like corrugated iron roofing wit the snow only softening around 1500 meters. Apparently it was great skiing by midday.
Weather: Sunny, not too warm at altitude. Wind from the north.
