Description

The Montaud climb is pretty famous among the Grenoble road cycling community. It offers around 500 meters of vertical with varied gradients and largely in the woods after a 20km warm up on the Isere cycle path from Grenoble. The climb starts at St Quentin sur Isere although you can climb the much more severe north east side via Veurey - which we'll descend instead.

I'd just moved to 25mm tires from 23mm, a good plan although perhaps at 110lbs I needed to dial in the pressures a bit. Quite a long ride but not quite the magic 100km.

The return cycle path on the right bank of the Isere is a bit narrower and care is needed when meeting other cyclists.

Conditions

20C when I set out but a hot 31C on the road home.
