High risk of skier triggered avalanches in the Southern Alps and Isère
The greatest caution is recommended for mountain activities off marked and open trails for this weekend.
For the Hautes-Alpes, Ubaye and southern Isère mountain ranges:
On Saturday, the risk of skiers triggering an will remain High, principally above 2000 m to 2200 m and on shaded slopes.
For these mountain ranges, the layer of fresh snow is often 30 to 50 cm thick from 1500 m, up to 80 cm in altitude. It rests on generalized fragile layers. Avalanches, sometimes of great magnitude, can thus be easily triggered by the passage of a single person.
On Sunday, this risk will persist, especially with the strengthening of the northerly wind.
For the rest of the Alps, the snowfalls were less important and the weak layers are less generalized. However, the avalanche risk will be high this weekend.
