Bizarrely the motor race that blocked me last time I tried to ride the Signal de St Andre was on again this weekend. Luckily they were elsewhere on Friday but I was concerned I would be stopped again. From Lyon you climb up onto a plateau at about 400 meters where there are lots of little towns so the real climb is from 400 to 930 meters, around about 6%, which is not too hard over 9km. There is a little village just before the summit, clearly the climate doesn't put people off. Although today the summit ridge was just above the clouds and basking in warm sun. I went all the way to the summit - there is a picnic area and observation platform although towards Lyon just clouds. The return was downhill pretty much to Lyon, which makes things a bit more pleasant. Probably the last warm riding day this year.
Average temperature of 12C under the fog and clouds but a balmy 17C on the summit at 934 meters. The clouds had cleared by the time I got back to Lyon and it was 16 in town. Shorts weather.
