I've been really tired after the 42k marathon so didn't feel like skiing today. I saw Barioz had all the trails open and it is just half an hour's drive. Ideal during the petrol crisis. Arriving before the nordic center opened I did a warm up on the Creve Coeur climb; the snow was going to be slow today. After paying for a trail pass I skied down the traverse, there was a bare patch with mud then the trial had not been pisted after the start of the descent but it was skiable. I started on the climb to the refuge. The snow was okay to ski but a bit soft beneath the corduroy and this was the same for the whole climb. Skiable but nothing more.
I headed around the Grande Teppe, I couldn't ski the last few meters as the piste basher hadn't been able to prepare the trail due to soft snow, then the Grande Teppe. Both these reds are rarely open so it was great to go round and the snow wasn't too bad if a bit dirty. Then up to the refuge for a snack. The Crete Luisard black hadn't been pisted on the climb, just the descent, there must be technical reasons with the lack of refreeze. The piste basher had left some deep tracks in places. I thought the Crete would be the best snow due to being open and high but it seems the Levant was better due to it being cooler in the trees. A tour of the Crete du Poulet piste and it was time to ski down - and I had to push the whole descent as the snow was so humid by this point or my waxing not good, I don't know what. 31K, not bad for a morning's work.
Overcast and mild weather. Transformed spring snow that is skiable at 9am but very sticky after 11am. A little bit of Sahara sand visible.
