Description

The ski resort of Superbagnères is situated in the Luchonnais area of the Haute-Garonne department in the Pyrénées region. The station is linked to the classical spa town of Bagneres de Luchon by gondola which takes only 8 minutes to arrive at the plateau with its spectacular panorama of the magnificent 3000m plus peaks surrounding the Luchonnais.

With direct access from Paris by train, or short transfers from Toulouse, Pau or Tarbes, Luchon - Superbagners is an ideal resort for familites.

The lift served area extends from 1400 metres to 2260 metres. There are pistes in 3 sectors including a long but easy 5km slope from the top of Cecire down to the lake. The resort has extensive snowmaking in all three sectors providing reliable cover on piste in even the worst of conditions.

There is also a snowpark and boardercross in the Téchous sector along with a Kids park for younger freestylers.

For the start of the 2010/11 season a new 4 seat chair has been installed from the base of the Lac Sector to the ridge above, this along with a redesign of the pistes provides a greater and wider piste selection in the Lac sector.

Off Piste Routes

Superbagnères is much smaller than nearby Peyragudes and of limited interest to the expert skier except on powder days.

Luchon Direct

The total descent is 1200 meters on a north facing slope and you need snow in Luchon if you are to avoid a long walk. There are lots of variants, you need a map and should ask for local advice.

Hount Estrète Sector

At the top of the chair there are a number of possibilities depending on the snow conditions. Check out the long pistes of the Sarrat, Hount Estrète and Gouron Soubiron

Forest Sector

From the d'Arbesquens drag some off-piste routes can be found in the forest.

Restaurants and Bars

There are a wide selection of bars, bistros and restaurants in Luchon itself. Most popular are "Billys" run by a local lad and his Australian wife, "The VO" provides a more traditional alpine style experience. And for a quieter more refined night out there is the "Cafe de la Paix" which is the bar linked to Luchon's only 4 star hotel.

The best restaurant on the mountain is at the foot of the Cecire sector. La Hount provides excellent, good value meals in a superb location.

We don't all ski 24/7, if there are shops: ski, fashion or bookstores you think people should know about mention them here.

Guides and Instructors

Only include guides and instructors who cater for off-piste or backcountry. Please specify whether they take snowboarders.
