Description

The ski resort of Saint-Lary Soulan is situated in the Aure-Louron area of the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Pyrénées region. The lift served area extends from 1700 metres to 2450 metres. There are 93 km of lift served runs. There are 10 km of cross country trails. The resort features a snowpark.

2006 News

The resort has installed two new lifts this season including the six seater Adet chair which replaces the Mickeys drags,

2010 News

A new gondola lift will carry skiers the 840m vertical meters to the le Plat d’Adet in less than 10 minutes. Each cabin can hold 18 skiers. The lift has a capacity of 1800 skiers/hour and will replace a bus link.

History

The resort is the home of 1968 Olympic Women's Downhill silver medalist Isabelle Mir. Her father and uncle have both served as mayors of St Lary. Isabelle is known as Mirabelle, a backslang (verlan) version of her names.

Off Piste Routes

Combes d'Aulon

Classic north-east facing off-piste leading to Aulon. Taxi or Car to return to the station.

From the Mouscadès drag lift you can either directly follow the Rabat valley or you can climb Soumaye ridge towards the Cap d'Armade. From here descend easwards into the Combes d'Aulon. Pass some ruins, the valley turns northwards to join a forest track to Aulon at the Granges de Lurgues.

Les Sarrats

This black run is usually unpisted.

Pichaley and Corne Blanque Couloirs

From the Courne Blanque lift climb for about 30 minutes along the north facing ridge to the Pichaley (2626 meters). The Courne Blanque couloirs are to the right of the ridge and descend eastwards around 250

Travel

Nearest Airport(s): Tarbes/Lourdes (80 km), Pau-Uzein (100 km), Toulouse-Blagnac (150 km)

Road: Autoroute A 64 Toulouse-Lannemezan then the RN 117 -> D929 to Lannemezan and Saint-Lary. All season road tunnel from Spain.

Rail: Direct TGV service from Paris to Tarbes then local train to Saint-Lary. Cable-car access from the village to the ski resort.
