Description

The ski resort of Ax Les Thermes is situated in the Haute-Ariège area of the Ariège department in the Pyrénées region. The lift served area extends from 1400 metres to 2400 metres. There are 75 km of lift served runs. The resort features a snowpark.

News 2006

There has been €12 million of investment in the ski area this year including artificial snow making in the Campells sector and the opening of Campeillot black and Trois Jasses green brining the total lift served runs to around 90km. A new six seater high speed chair has been installed on the Saquet and there is a new blue "Saquet" run. A four speed chair has added to the lift capacity.

Travel

Nearest Airport(s): Toulouse Blagnac (120km), Carcasonne (110km)

Road: A61 then A66 autoroute to Villefranche de Lauragais then the N20 for 60 km, 37km is now dual carriageway. From Barcelona follow signs to Toulouse then the Cadi Puymorens toll tunnels.

Rail: Ax railway station is 500 meters from the gondola lift. Direct night train from Paris.

The town has a Casino due to its spa status.

Shopping

Ax les Thermes is a real and authentic Pyrnenean town with all the shops you would expect. If you are looking for backcountry gear you should visit the excellent Telemark Pyrenees run by Neil Hardy. It is not just Telemark kit, you can find walking boots, touring and downhill skis.

Guides and Instructors

Only include guides and instructors who cater for off-piste or backcountry. Please specify whether they take snowboarders.
