Ski-Areas > Northern Alps > Isère (38) > Belledonne > Les Sept Laux > Jas de Lievres North Couloir
From les 7 Laux (Prapoutel) follow a walking trail to the south to the Bedina bridge. From here it is best to follow the snowshoe trails to the source de Bedina then zig-zag back onto the ridge which leads to the Pre de l'Arc colony des Vacances. This uses a short section of the cross-country ski route so take care as these skiers have priority.
From the colony des Vacances follow the pre de l'Arc road. Just before the ruins of the habert du Pre de l'Arc you will see an old telephone pole, strike up to the south-west ridge at this point. The slope is a steep but comfortable climb. The summit is visible to the north-east above a rock formation.
From the summit ski back down the ridge line 50 meters, the couloir is clearly visible on the right. Watch out for rocks at th entrance. After it is a good 35-40 degree slope, not steep but fairly narrow before opening up into the Combe de Bedina. In the combe keep to the left to avoid cliffs before traversing across to the north-west when the slope flattens out to return to the ski resort.
The route is also possible from Prabert. There is also a north-west couloir and the couloir Y. Both slightly harder.

VFD Bus route 6500 serves Prapoutel. The bus takes about an hour from Grenoble (35 minutes from Brignoud). It is possible to catch the early bus and return on the 1pm bus. Think about the environment.
The north couloir didn't have much snow at the top, afterwards there was fresh snow on a hard base, afterwards deep powder with some avalanche debris. Further down into the north side of the Bedina it was less good - fresh snow on a breakable crust in the shade, skiable crud in the sun.
I climbed up at 11am, probably a bit late given the ambiant temperature. The other couloirs (apart from the Bedina) in the sector are dry.
