Dents De Bedina East Face

Ski Areas > Northern Alps > Belledonne > Prabert > Dents de Bédina, east face

Description

Follow the same route as the Cime de la Jasse to the Habert d'Aiguebelle. After the refuge continue north towards the Vénetiers. To the left there are two "dents" (teeth). The Dent Noire de Bedina which has no snow cover and the Dent Blanche de Bedina. To access the Dent Noire, or rather the notch (brêche) just to the north start climbing the slopes to your left. These are not too steep at first. Pass point 1992m (IGN Map) to the right and continue to the north-west. At around 2150 meters turn more westwards and climb a couloir to the brêche (2410m). You can either ski this couloir or climb about 20 meters to the north-east along the ridgeline and descend the open east to south-east facing slopes.

Slightly easier is the Dent Blanche. Continue to the first lac de Vénétier then climb the open east facing slopes towards the col de la Jasse. Turn north-west to reach the col then follow the ridge to the Dent Blanche. This is rated 3.1 and exposure of 1. The slope is 35° towards the col.

Variations

From the brêche you can ski a steep, 'S' shaped couloir into the combe de Bedina. Return via the north-west couloir to the left of the Jas de Lievres.

Trip Reports

14th March 2007

We set off at 7h30 from the trailhead. Continuous snow started at 1390 meters by the reservoir although the forest track was rocky until around 1550 meters. Very good refreeze and excellent grip until 2100m where the slopes turn eastward and were already turning to spring snow. I put on my ski crampons at this point, Anny continued without but it was a bit delicate as the steep slopes are exposed to some cliff bars. We climbed to the brêche de Bedina arriving just before 10am. The couloir had some "balls" in it so we climbed towards the Dent Blanche to ski the steep slopes just to the left of the couloir. Excellent conditions at 10h30 until the forest which was in shadow and still icy.

  • Weather : Warm, Sunny, Good refreeze
  • Avalanche Risk: Moderate (2/5)
  • Participants: David, Anny
  • Snow level: 1390 m
