The Dynastar Altitrail Vertical has become a firm favourite with the serious ski touring crowd looking for a lightweight and performant ski. It has a wood core which makes it durable, it won't loose its stiffness after a season. The largish shovel works well in powder although some find that the ski can get bogged down a bit. Mounting the bindings back from the center line is a possible solution. To be discussed with your ski shop. The ski is a compromise between climbing / descent. The 75mm underfoot gives enough float for wet or deep snow. The ski is relatively stiff without too much sidecut for steep or couloir skiing. It works well with straight skins such as 80mm with a bit of cutting. The price is also very attractive to hard working ski tourers.
