Description

The ski resort of Val d'Ese is situated in the Haute-Corse department in the Corsica region. The lift served area extends from 1610 metres to 1745 metres. There are three drag lifts serving 8km of pistes, the longest is 1850 meters and offers 298 meters of vertical.

History

Bastelica is situated at 800 meters this is the administrative centre for a canton of small hamlets on the slopes of Monte Renoso. Further up the Val d'Ese is a small ski station which was supposed to put Corsican skiing on the map. In 1993 there was a project to build a ski domain with 100 km of pistes but the regional council couldn't get the local communities to agree how the infrastructures would be exploited. Some dynamite work by people associated with the FLNC (Corsican Liberation Front) may also have discouraged further development.

Off Piste Routes

The Val d'Ese ski station has some interesting off-piste to those with a good experience of ski mountaineering, particularly in the Renoso range which tops out at 2353 meters. Another possibility if conditions allow is the north face of the Cinto, at 2710 meters Corsica's highest summit.
