Route
Car park (often busy) on Avenue Ampere just coming out of St Didier du Mont D'or - opposite the Aux Montagnards restaurant which does Savoie specialities. Head south on the road 100 m to pick up the Chemin des Presles on the right. Walk to the end to reach the route du Mont Verdun where you can turn right to walk down to the Ch de la Roche de la Voute or take one of the many paths across the field to finally arrive at a col de la Croix Vitaise at the start of the Route de la Genie. Here an easy path takes you back south to Mont Thou. From Mont Thou follow the closed road down to a cross roads where you can pick up a path back to where you started crossing a field. Trip Report
We'd been meaning to do a longer version of the same route but what with it being the wettest spring for 20 years we never found the opportunity. Finally this version sticks more to gravel tracks and quiet roads.
Muddy on small tracks but the route we took is pretty well drained, just the track from the crossroads at Mont Thou that was bad but we walked down the road until we spotted the path back to the car park, which was dry.
Storms threatened all afternoon but never materialized except for a couple of spits of water.
