Difficult winter for French Nordic Ski Areas

The first figures to come in from Nordic ski areas are not good. The Savoie did well led by le Grand Revard, Les Saisies and Bessans with Naves and Peisey improving other areas saw a drop in turnover and visitors due to the lack of snow.

The Jura once again suffered with turnover of €1.7m this season compared to €2.4m last year. Even that seems like a miracle given the almost total lack of snow after Christmas. In the Catalan Pyrenees turnover was down -50% and the Massif Central -56% despite some great late season conditions at the end of the season. Too late to make a big difference.

The picture in the Haute-Savoie was mixed, turnover was €2.2m saved by high altitude ski areas such Pras-de-Lys. In the Southern Alps snow conditions were sometimes excellent, with figures almost equivalent to 2023-2024.

The Drôme resorts did better than last season, thanks to good business at Font d'Urle.

Overall turnover for France is around €10.5m; down -13% on last season and and -32% on the excellent post-covid 21-22 season. During covid, when ski lifts were shut, nordic areas had takings of €19.7m. There were 2 million Nordic skier days.
