A French season worker aged in his twenties has been killed by an avalanche in the ski resort of la Rosière in the Savoie department near the col des Embrasures (2303m). Missing since Tuesday (22 Feb) his body was found today. The alert was given on Wednesday morning by his employer when he failed to appear for work. A high mountain guide reported an avalanche on Thursday morning and the victims lift pass showed that the last lift he'd taken was the Roches Noires Express, thisoriented the search to the Montvalezan sector.
The avalanche risk was 3 (Considerable) for the sector on all slope aspects and elevations with 30cm of new, wind blown snow. The avalanche forecast warned that the wind had been very turbulent forming fresh slabs on all slope aspects.
