I shouldn't have bothered really. When I arrived at the trail head it was raining quite hard and the piste was completely waterlogged but as I was on classic skis I thought it might not be too bad. It was a reasonable bet and indeed the climb wasn't too bad. Skating looked bad, the first km had boot holes all over from walkers and 2cm of heavy fresh snow on top. However going down to St Hilaire and I still had to pole to keep moving, this was going to be a slow day. I'm not sure it was too useful for technique really. Skiing back to the car on the steep slope and it was just possible to slide but the boot holes were dangerous as you could get a ski caught in them causing a fall.
Rain to around 1200 meters. Very sticky snow.
