I've cycled around the lake of Orta before, in both directions. In my opinion the climb out of Omegna is the easiest even if it is sun exposed as the gradient is never severe. This time I decided to explore the road via the Egro ridge. It is maked as a cycleway but the descent to Monte San Guilio is a cobbled track. I had to walk down but it would be fine on a gravel or MTB. It takes about 10 minutes but the woods are fly infested. Afterwards I descended to Pella to ride along the lake.
34C at midday. Traffic on the south side of the lake - lorries etc. Otherwise calm.
