Description

Because of a tendinitis I wanted a route that was flat. Also my road bike has a bent gear hangar and will have to wait for me to get my straightening tool to fix it. So I grabbed my old x-country mountain bike. Well not quite  a gravel bike but the route is gravel. From Lyon I went up the right bank of the Rhone past Hawaii to the bridge at Miribel. This is restricted to bikes only after a lorry tried crossing and broke it. From there I cross under the autoroute to pick up the lakes - after the autoroute follow the finger boards for the Belvedere des pecheurs then a pontoon bridge brings you to the south side of the lake. From here continue south-west to the Canal du Jonage and you can follow the tow path back to Lyon to complete the circle. I picked up a couple of guys on gravel bikes and they "towed" me back to town at a swift 30+ kph.

Lubdunum is the Latin name for Lyon. Lug being a main celtic god and dunum - fortress. The Forces Motrices du Rhône is a hydro power company established in 1892. The generators at Cuisset can produce 63MW, enough for a town of 100,000 residents. The site is currently exploited by the EDF.

Conditions

Very warm but most of the route is in the shade or by the water, which keeps it a bit fresher.
