Caluire-et-Cuire is one of the hills of Lyon to the NW of the city center. La Croix Rousse district is at the southern end of the hill. The summit of the hill is 275 meters. Basically ride out along the Saone river on the cycle path on the left bank to reach the road bridge at Fontaines sur Saone at about 10km from the city. Cross turn back taking the road through Sathonay-Camp for about a 150 meter vertical climb to Caluire, it is probably easiest to either descend back down to the rhoe at Caluire to the Ile Barbe or descend to the Rhone at la Croix Rousse. The descents are quite steep.
Trip Report
Riding along the Saone I came off an an expansion joint on the George Clemenceau bridge. I took it diagonally but clearly not with enough angle. Bent the derailleur hanger and hit my ankle and worse, my thumb. Bike was ok to continue but noticed the rear mech was out of alignment and the chain broke a couple of days later and had been making a noise prior to breaking.
Apart from that, nice sunny midday bike ride on a fairly easy route.
Good, apart from an expansion joint that I crashed on.
