I had spotted another climb on the Mont d'Or: the Carrières. Apart from 100 meters of gravel (why?), it is covered with rough concrete like a Belgian motorway. You can ride it with a road bike. So my plan was to connect another secret road, the legendary Chemin de Tignot, to this climb and cover 1,000 meters of elevation gain. I hadn't planned for the wet weather and heavy showers (luckily, there are bridges to shelter under). The climb up to the quarries isn't too steep, except for the access road, the Chemin du Tilleul, which is nasty, short, and brutish and gets seriously medieval on your thighs. Still what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and all that crap.
Wet, rainy, and quite cold (46°F). Dead leaves everywhere. The Tignot climb had a few twigs and stuff and is not in super condition. Ok with 25mm tires.
