Vertical Climbed: 955 meters (3,133 feet)
Vertical Descended: 954 meters
Rating: 5
I'd spotted the Alpe Loccia while searching for new routes around lake Orta in Italy. According to the mountain bikers it is an uber steep climb with sections over 20%. I didn't know the best route so opted for the Germagno / Loregia "alta vecchia" road. This had the advantage of being quite but involved an extra climb and descent compared to the flat valley road. The initial climb to Chesio is steep, then things really ramp up with a road that is not well surfaced but is a series of steep ramps with some respite in between. A flat at 880 meters stopped my progress, some 200 vertical meters short of my target. I'll be back, I hope. The direct road to Omegna was pretty straightforward - note the balcony road from Chesio to Luzzogno is unsurfaced.
Dry, farily warm, lots of flies in the woods
