Description

The climb from Lancey is in the shade in the morning, at least as far as le Mas Julien. Afterwards it is pretty exposed but the road to the power station at the head of the valley has been resurfaced. There are two km of gravel after the power station to the col but the road is not very steep, thankfully as the climb from le Mas Julien is a killer. 6km at 10% on average with a section of 14% over 1km.

Trip Report

Having climbed to the power station last year I wanted to see if the gravel section to the Col du Pre Long, which I'd climbed from the other side on tarmac, was possible. It is and is not too bad even on 25mm road wheels. However the climb to the power station remains a purgatory. One of the hardest bits of climbing in the valley I would think.

Conditions

Dry gravel, good riding in general.
