The Pyrenees had a period of risk 5 condtions at the end of last week and as well as access roads to ski resorts being closed, once again, there was some impressive natural avalanche activity. This impressive avalanche was on the Pic Baix del Cubil at the ski area of Grau Roig in Andorra on 28th of February, 2015. It was triggered from a helicopter dropped explosives during control work.
The Préfeture of the Hautes-Pyrénées released a spectacular series of photos showing a car-park at 1900 m that was hit by a natural slide during the night of the 27th/28th. Rescue workers: CRS, police and firecrews and pisteurs checked the slide to make sure no one had been caught. The car-park is in a red zone for avalanches but this is the biggest slide locals remember. It will now have avalanche control barriers installed above the sector.
Two cars were hit by an avalanche at the col du Puymorens. The occupants were able to escape the slide. The Col was closed on Wednesday night (4 March 2015) due to the avalanche risk.
