Two snowshoers have been killed and another injured on Saturday afternoon in the Ariege region of the French Pyrenees close to Rabat les Trois Seigneurs. They were hit by a 300 meter long slide.
The accident occurred at around 13h30. The group of three snowshoers were roped up when they were hit by the avalanche. One of the victims was able to free himself from the snow and alert the rescue services despite multiple injuries. His friends, both from the region, did not survive. The avalanche risk was considerable with a return to springlike conditions in the area.
