The top station of the Pleney cable car at Morzine has been destroyed by fire early this morning. Around 40 firemen fought the blaze. There were no victims.
The building was totally destroyed by the fire and the adjacent restaurant was damaged. The fire, which started around 4am, was finally brought under control some 2 hour later. A TV transmitter was also damaged and residents of Morzine awoke to no TV or Telephone. The Pleney cable car is used by mountain bikers during the summer but was already scheduled for closure for rebuilding this season. The resort is looking at alternative solutions for mountain bikers.
