A 33 year old Czech skier, resident of Prague, has been killed skiing off piste at La Rosière in the Savoie. He was skiing with a friend who avoided the slide and was able to give the alert.
The incident occured at 1900 meters altitude near the top of the Ecudets chair. The slide measured 60 meters wide and was around 40cm deep (about the same as the fresh snow in the area). He was found by piste patrollers under 120cm of snow using the signal from his avalanche transceiver but could not be resucitated.
In a separate incident three skier tourers triggered an avalanche in nearby Beaufort. They were touring above the Saint-Guérin dam. They lost material but no-one was hurt. They were rescued by the PGHM.
Radio Val d'Isere reports that a 16 year old skier injuried himself after hitting the walls of the Vallée Perdue. An popular off piste in the Bellevarde sector. The skier lost control in the narrow gorge and suffered an arm injury.
