A couple of ski tourers have died in an avalanche at 1600 meters in the Oisans area. The French couple were part of a larger group including their children when they were hit by a wet snow slide in the north west facing combe de Lafaiouze above the village of Fallavaux in the South Isere close to Corps. The other members of the group were able to recover the man but the woman had been carried 300 meters by the slide into woods at the base of the combe and was found by the rescue services buried under a considerable quantity of snow. Both victims were equipped with avalanche beacons. On Tuesday evening Meteo France had warned that warming temperatures and fresh rain and snow would increase the danger of wet snow slides in the area.

A 50 year old Parisian was suffered severe head injuries ice climbing at la Grave this afternoon.

In the Pyrenees two Spanish walkers are still missing after going for what they said would be a short hike on Sunday.  The walker’s car has been found on the Plateau de Sanchese above the French town of Pau. The search has covered both sides of the border with French rescue workers probing snow slides and searching with avalanche dogs. French authorities have asked amateurs to keep away from the search area due to the risk of avalanches in the sector.

The bodies of the missing Spaniards have been found last weekend after an extensive search by their friends who have been combing the mountains since the dissapearance. The two men were found under the Pic de Pène-Blanque to the west of Lescun. They appear to have been buried by an avalanche.
