A Slovakian snowboarder has been killed this afternoon by an avalanche on Mont Chéry close to the les Gets ski resort. It seems like the boarder, who was alone at the time, took off his board and fell through a corniche triggering a snow slide. The alert was given by piste patrollers who spotted the slide. Last January a local ski instructor, Jean-Michel Delavay, died on the same mountain in an avalanche. Another skier was rescued in another avalanche incident in Abondance around 11h00. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The avalanche above Abondance was on the Roc de Tavaneuse. The victim approached a cliff to look over, fell and triggered the slide. He was 50 minutes under a meter of snow and severely hypothermic.

Austria
A 66 year old ski tourer has been killed by an avalanche in Landeck at 2500 meters on the Kreuzhochspitze in the Austrian Tyrol. This brings to 17 the number of deaths during February.

Switzerland
There were also two deaths in Switzerland:

A ski tourer at Augstbordhorn in the Haute Valais
an off pister at Bruson in the Val de Bagnes

5 people were also caught by an avalanche at Champex, apparently on piste.

There have been 21 deaths this season in Switzerland.
