Puy de Sancy Road Trip

Early on Saturday morning to ski on French volcanoes, some 450 km drive south of Paris.  Okay these volcanoes haven’t erupted for 250,000 years but hot springs still bubble up from these dormant giants.

My guide was a local and we skied practically every possible couloir, the former ‘A’ and Prime pistes, now itineraries, the lesser Mule pass, the ‘Y’ and finally a bit of extreme, the ‘cable’ where we were overtaken by one of the local riders carving this narrow and steep couloir like it was a blue piste.

Le Mont Dore is open until the 27th of April, but with the warm weather few of the couloirs will remain in condition.
