A 39 year old guide has been killed on the glacier d’Argentière in the Mont Blanc range yesterday morning at around 10h30. The man was running a crevasse rescue course with two clients.
The guide was digging a hole in the snow to make a belay point when it appears he broke through a snow bridge and fell around 20 meters into a crevasse. The High Mountain Police (PGHM) from Chamonix came to the scene but the guide had been killed by the fall. The guide was from the Haute-Savoie and worked independently.

The guide was Thierry Lokteff. He leaves behind a wife, Sylvia, and family. He was a wonderful person, with a gift to make anyone smile and laugh.

Thanks for the extra information.
A very popular man from what I have heard. He was one of the founder employees of Decathlon at Sallanches before leaving to become a guide.
Very sad for those left behind.

Thierry was a truly great adventurer and guide who always made his client groups feel like they had had a full mountain experience. My many friends and I from the UK who have had the priviledge to ski regularly with Thierry over the last 4/5 years will miss him terribly.
