A 26 year old High Mountain Guide has been killed by an avalanche close to the ski resort of Eyne in the Western Pyrenees. He had set out for a ski tour with a friend who suffered leg injuries in the slide.
The accident occurred early on Saturday afternoon in a steep couloir. It appears the guide may have killed by an impact with a tree. The High Mountain Police (PGHM) from Oséjà were called to the scene of the slide and took the survivor to hospital. The avalanche risk was 3 (Considerable) at the time.
In the Isere a group of British snowboarders were rescued by the PGHM last last night after getting stuck above cliffs in the Vaujany sector of l’alpe d’Huez. The boarders were unaware of the telephone number of the rescue services and had to phone their family in London who then alerted the local police. The police reached the group on skis.

The guide was Sylvain Bernole who was also a ski instructor with the ESF at St Pierre de Forcats.
