Sourced from elsewhere “I just wanted to flag up the recent recall on bca tracker 2 transceivers. The device seems to go into a mode designed to allow it to recieve updates via an optical input when effected by static. In this mode it does not transmit! The short term solution seems to be a firmware update for which the unit will need to be returned to the manufacturer. This dos not solve the susceptibility to static!

There would also appear to be issues with units rebooting even when switched off, excess battery use and also an issue of possibe failure of the tracker and the barryvox pulse to communicate with each other.”

It seems to be a limited problem for the moment but thanks for posting. The Pulse/T2 issue is a bit worrying. I’ve seen similar things with other digital beacons and compatibility is a major testing nightmare. Maybe Bruce can post more details?

It’s worth noting that it’s only a few units that have had a problem. The T2 - Pulse issue is worrying.  The Pulse itself has not been hassle free with earlier problems resolved with the V3 software but the new basic and advanced menu requiring patience to work out if your not connected by W link and the dongle.  Perhaps it’s Pulse software V2 that is the problem.  UK distributor ANATATOM has the software upgrade available for T2 and so might the sellers, so no need to send them back to the USA. I would think other EU distributors would do the same. Regarding the Pulse and static. This might be an issue affecting all trainsceivers.  I have 40 Pulse for students on courses and about 1 a month seems to develop a glitch that could be related to this. Overall I am a T2 fan though, as it’s fast and for off piste with smaller groups I prefer this ease of use and very fast processor speed.

Direct from BCA and Mammut regarding the T2/Pulse.  There is no problem with the Pulse finding the T2 or vice versa. Some folks failed a course and tried to blame the fact they couldnt find the T2 transceivers fast enough with a Pulse. It seems the problem is they went too fast for the processor to work out. So that bits a myth.  Regarding the software update, its still getting looked into to see if it is an early test batch that went out a while ago. So far I have distributed many dozen T2’s and so far not had a problem reported, but anyone needing an upgrade for re assurance will get one. It’s always a concern when saftey is at stake but in its defence BCA is being very open about it. The pulse V2 software had its problems, and also the early Ortovox S1’s in fact none of them are glitch free.  I often wonder what Apple or Sony would come up with if they designed a Beacon!
