Five British Avalanche Rescue Dogs given to Chamonix
The British Ambassador to France, Sir Michael Jay, presented Chamonix High Mountain Police (PGHM) with five avalanche rescue dogs to thank them and the town for the aid given to British tourists and to pay tribute to the rescue worker’s courage during the difficult winter of 1999.
The purchase and training of the dogs was paid for by the British people. Mr Jay particuarly thanked the Mountain Police for their help rescuing two British alpinist who were trapped Droites peak near to Mont Blanc for seven days during January 1999.
