Naxo extends binding range
Swiss based binding manufacturer Naxo is adding three new bindings to its range for the coming season. Naxo bindings are designed for freeriders looking for a performance ski binding that can also be used to climb. The new bindings are named nx02, nx11 and Prinzzess.
Hello Prinzzess
The Naxo nx02 is an updated version of the nx01 which suffered problems with breakages in its initial versions. The nx02 improves the pivot mechanism, heel and damping units. Weight has been a priority with this binding, Naxo claim an 1800 gram weight including brakes which is very competitive with the Fritschi and Silvretta Pure ranges. Hopefully the early nx01 problems won’t resurface. The plastic parts are reinforced with fiberglass.
The Naxo nx11 is an all mountain binding aimed at the Freerando market. In practise this means that it weights 100 grams less than the nx21 and has one less DIN setting, the highest being 12. The 40mm ride height is said to give better edging in steeps and when carving.
Finally the Naxo Prinzzess is a nx21 binding aimed at the female market. The binding comes in black. It is not clear if this is just a styling and marketing change (a la Atomic) or if the Prinzzess is really different from the smaller nx21 bindings.
Naxo AG, based in Thun, Switzerland, was founded in 2001 by former managers at alpine touring manufacturer, Fritschi AG. In April 2006 Norwegian telemark and cross-country binding maker Rottefella took a majority stake in Naxo. The fusion will give Naxo access to Rottefella’s worldwide distribution network. Rottefella took a 62.5% stake in Naxo with the option to increase this holding. Rottefella is developing a telemark boot standard (NTN) that will also work in alpine touring bindings and sees synergies with the Naxo acquisition.
