Of course belayed slope cutting was how the piste patrol used to control slopes before they had howitzers and avalancheurs. Here’s an excerpt from an interview with Jean Cattelin and Emile Allais discussing unbelayed slope cutting on the Saulire:-

Obviously Andrew is doing something right as he is still alive. I certainly agree about choosing who you ski with carefully, there are a lot of risk takers out there, many of whom are not even aware they are taking risks.
